Dryden Studio

Nestled in Nashville's Berry Hill design district, Dryden Studio transformed a former exterminator's office into a headquarters that reflects the firm's belief that architecture should be deeply personal, narrative-driven, and rooted in community. Rather than following conventional office design, the studio blurs the line between workplace and home, creating an environment that feels welcoming, lived-in, and thoughtfully curated. Minimal exterior interventions, including fresh brick paint, custom steel awnings, new windows, and a carefully composed entry garden, establish the project's central dialogue between urban and rural landscapes before visitors even step inside.

The entry serves as both lounge and listening room, where floor-to-ceiling windows connect the interior to the garden, custom furnishings encourage conversation, and treasured family heirlooms and collected objects tell the story of founder Nick Dryden's personal and creative journey. Throughout the office, carefully crafted thresholds reference architectural details from Nick's father's workplace, weaving family history into the experience of moving through the space. Three acoustically engineered meeting rooms draw inspiration from the recording studios that define the surrounding neighborhood, honoring Nashville's musical heritage while supporting seamless collaboration. At the heart of the office, a residential-inspired kitchen and library feature white oak cabinetry, natural stone surfaces, skylights, and a curated collection of design resources that encourage gathering, learning, and creativity. Original concrete floors, plaster-parged walls, reclaimed wood, and natural materials create a warm, tactile backdrop for an eclectic mix of artwork, vintage furnishings, and pieces by local makers.

The open studio continues this dialogue between past and present, incorporating reclaimed Douglas fir, heirloom furniture, and original architectural drawings that celebrate generations of design influence. Even the bathrooms contribute to the studio's sense of discovery, with each representing a different season through expressive color blocking that contrasts with the otherwise restrained material palette. More than a workplace, Dryden Studio embodies the firm's commitment to placemaking, serving as a creative hub where design, community, and meaningful relationships continually intersect.
