Sunnyside Mansion

This project focused on the thoughtful renovation and preservation of Sevier Park's historic Sunnyside Mansion and its accessory buildings, revitalizing them to better serve the community while honoring their rich history. The vision was multi-faceted: restore and preserve the property, while expanding and updating much-needed office space for the Metro Historic Commission.

We were able to encase two post-Revolutionary War log cabins—now integrated into the main building via a sleek, modern glass connector—to showcase distinct historic periods and enhance the visitor experience. A new lobby entry was added to improve accessibility and modernize the space while preserving its historic character. The Carriage House, once in disrepair, will be reimagined into a dynamic new café space, offering a welcoming community hub and enriching the neighborhood with an inviting gathering spot.

Attention to detail was paramount: historic paint analysis informed the project’s updated color palette, and lighting was strategically used to draw attention to key architectural features and views. This project is more than preservation—it’s a reinvestment in history, community, and storytelling, creating a shared space for both learning and connection.
