Urban Cowboy set out to revitalize a historic space within The Arcade, an iconic open-air mall in the heart of downtown Nashville, with a vision rooted in preservation and authenticity. The goal was to amplify the character already present, creating a space that feels both timeless and distinctly local. As Urban Cowboy’s second Nashville location, the concept offers an intentional alternative to the tourist-heavy Broadway strip, inviting locals to reclaim downtown. The Arcade’s existing charm made it the perfect fit. The venue merges a dynamic bar environment with a locally loved pizza kitchen, designed in collaboration with the renowned Roberta’s team. 

 Bringing together eight distinct spaces across multiple levels was a complex architectural challenge that demanded careful planning and creative integration. The project’s defining first move was positioning a window at the upper bar to frame a dramatic view of The Arcade’s central spine, establishing a powerful visual anchor. That singular decision set the tone for the entire design - every element unfolding naturally from that point. 

 On the lower level, dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, a beautifully reclaimed bar, and warm wooden floors set a welcoming tone. The owner's eclectic taxidermy collection adds a sense of whimsy and personality throughout the space, while low ceilings and hand block-printed wallpaper throughout create a moody, layered atmosphere. Upstairs, a glowing stone bar, private booths, and the show-stopping bar window create an atmosphere that instantly clicks. 

 The project is deeply rooted in local culture, offering out-of-towners an authentic taste of Nashville’s community spirit. It reflects a strong local sensibility in both design and experience!
