Vanderbilt Residential College C

This project presented both an exciting opportunity and a rewarding challenge, creating a new residence hall for the esteemed Vanderbilt University. Our goal was to honor the university’s historic charm while infusing the space with good design, comfortability, and an energy that matched the college's bustling campus. Inspired by our work at Noelle, the vision was to soften the building’s presence, moving away from a traditional collegiate aesthetic and toward a warm, hospitality driven space.

The dining hall serves as the heart of the project, featuring massive custom-built communal tables and a central banquette that evokes the energy of a restaurant rather than a cafeteria. A flexible multi-purpose room and great room support a wide range of activities, from conferences and fundraising events to studying and social gatherings. Student lounge areas introduce bolder color, varied textures, and comfortable seating to encourage relaxation and connection. Rather than relying on the school’s colors, the palette was intentionally shifted toward warmer, more natural tones, and throughout the project, highly durable materials and textiles were selected for longevity and easy maintenance.

Overall, the project delivers a refined and welcoming space designed to be used, enjoyed, and genuinely lived in by the campus community.
